In a move to enhance energy access and connectivity in rural areas in the country, Hotspot Network Limited, a leading telecom tower operator, has joined forces with Solarkiosk Solutions GmbH, a provider of off-grid solar energy across Africa.
According to a statement, the two companies have launched a joint venture, Hotspot-Solarkiosk, aimed at transforming the energy and communication landscape in underserved areas of the country.
The companies noted that the primary objective was to deliver innovative technology solutions that would increase solar energy availability and improve internet connectivity in rural Nigeria.
Initially, the joint venture will focus on using solar energy to power Hotspot’s existing telecom tower network.
The initiative is expected to dramatically improve internet access in remote villages, bridging the digital divide.
The firms stated that the partnership would see the rolling out of Solarkiosk’s proprietary E-HUBB technology, which utilises solar power to provide essential goods and services to off-grid communities.
The CEO of Solarkiosk Solutions GmbH, Thomas Rieger, said, “We are thrilled about this joint venture with Hotspot, uniting two mission-aligned companies with proven track records.
“This collaboration will combine connectivity and essential services, transforming rural Nigeria and driving economic empowerment in off-grid communities.”
