It has been suggested that Jurgen Klopp may unintentionally prevent Xabi Alonso from joining Liverpool.
Alonso, a former Liverpool player, has been heavily predicted to take over at Anfield in the summer after Klopp stated he would be leaving the team at the end of the season.
Alonso is now in charge of Bayer Leverkusen, who are unbeaten this season in all competitions and are 10 points ahead of Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga.
However, Liverpool could have to fight for the services of the Spaniard because Thomas Tuchel is also expected to depart Bayern at the end of the season and the German giants want Alonso to lead their team.
According to Florian Plettenberg, a reporter at Sky Sports Germany, Bayern and Alonso have already had fruitful talks.
The 42-year-old is said to prefer managing in Germany because he believes it would be too risky to continue as Klopp did at Liverpool.
Plettenberg told the publication: “Bayern have the information that if he moves, then he will go to Bayern and not to Liverpool.
“Alonso says that Liverpool and the Klopp legacy are a difficult [thing to follow]. You could lose more than win.”
Klopp won every trophy at Liverpool and Alonso feels that it will be difficult to follow that and match the greatness of the German manager.
There is no doubt about the fact that whoever takes the Liverpool job when Klopp leaves, he will have one of the toughest jobs in football.
The amazing work that Klopp has done and the connection he has with the players, the fans and the community is something that will be very difficult to replicate.
