Jon M. Chu’s Wicked Part One is set to defy gravity when it comes to theaters just ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. The first part of the musical film adaptation will compete against Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II, which arrives in theaters on the same date for a combination much like the summer of 2023’s Barbenheimer.
Those hoping to stream Wicked Part One versus seeing it in the theater may have to wait a bit before the film arrives on streaming services as it will have an exclusive theatrical run at the end of this year.

When does Wicked Part One come out in theaters?
The first half of the duology hits theaters on Friday, Nov. 22 alongside Gladiator II for the phenomenon some are calling Glicked. The film was originally slated to go up against Moana 2 a week later.
Is Wicked streaming?
Wicked won’t be streaming for a while, as the film has a box office battle with Gladiator II for at least the end of the year. Since the film is from Universal, it will likely arrive on Peacock first in the new year.
Who is in Wicked Part One?
Cynthia Erivo will star as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Ariana Grande will star as Glinda the Good Witch. Jeff Goldblum plays The Wizard of Oz, and Michelle Yeoh plays Madame Morrible. Jonathan Bailey appears as Fiyero, and Ethan Slater plays Boq. Marissa Bode plays Nessarose, and Bronwyn James and Bowen Yang play Glinda’s friends ShenShen and Pfannee. Peter Dinklage voices Dr. Dillamond, the goat professor.
What is Wicked Part One about?
The film follows Elphaba’s backstory, told from the perspective of Glinda. The movie follows how the two met and forged a friendship at Shiz University before they went their separate ways.
