Huawei Technologies has launched its F5G-A technology in Sub-Saharan Africa, aimed at driving digital transformation in the region, the Chinese telecoms equipment maker announced.
The launch took place at Huawei’s Global Optical Summit in Johannesburg, which attracted over 300 industry customers and partners from across the region.
In a statement on Tuesday, Huawei Vice President for Sub-Saharan Africa, Li Chen, reiterated the company’s commitment to driving digital transformation and industrial intelligence in the region.
“As a leader in the optical industry, Huawei is committed to working with partners and customers to promote enterprises’ digital and intelligent transformation in every corner of Sub-Saharan Africa,” Chen said.
Huawei launched various F5G-A products and solutions, including the next-generation FTTO 2.0 Solution and Huawei OptiXtrans E6600, aimed at enhancing campus networks, production networks, and data centre interconnect scenarios.
The F5G-A technology is designed to provide a foundation for industrial intelligence, enabling businesses to achieve win-win cooperation in the field.
Customer representatives from the Kenya Ports Authority and the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa shared success stories of partnering with Huawei in all-optical network construction.
In a keynote speech titled “F5G-A, the Foundation for Industrial Intelligence,” President of Huawei’s Enterprise Optical Network Domain, Gavin Gu, pointed out that “Industrial intelligence brings three new trends to the optical industry. F5G-A shows us a clear technology evolution roadmap for these trends.
I believe that with the joint efforts of customers, partners, and Huawei, we will achieve win-win cooperation in industrial intelligence.”
According to the General Manager of the Signaling and Telecoms Dept. at PRASA, Athanacious Makgamatha, this innovative technology provides a new direction for railway security through both optical and visual verification. PRASA looks forward to further collaborations with Huawei to promote intelligent railway development.
Makgamatha stated, “KPA works with Huawei to build a smart, green, efficient, and secure POL port network, which can satisfy service development requirements in the next decade.”
Additionally, Huawei launched its next-generation FTTO 2.0 Solution, leveraging XGS-PON Pro and Wi-Fi 7 technologies to upgrade campus networks in the education, healthcare, hospitality, and manufacturing industries.
The solution achieves 12.5/25G bandwidth to rooms and 2.5/10G to APs and desks, building a green 10 Gbps all-optical campus.
Huawei also introduced the OptiXtrans E6600, the industry’s first optical transmission product supporting the fine-grain OTN (fgOTN) standard, designed for energy and transportation production networks.
At the summit, Huawei released the fgOTN Technical White Paper, providing insights into the fgOTN standard series, key technologies, and application scenarios.
The paper proposes an industry-target network architecture based on fgOTN standards and explores future optical communication applications in various industries.
