Angel City FC has mutually parted ways with general manager Angela Hucles Mangano, the club announced on Thursday.
Hucles Mangano was the team’s first general manager, transitioning to the role in 2022 after joining the then expansion side as vice president of player development in 2021.
“As general manager, she elevated our standards, secured the largest dedicated performance center in the NWSL and assembled a world-class leadership team that supports our players and staff in every way,” Angel City FC president Julie Uhrman said in a statement. “She has always led with integrity, putting the needs of our players and soccer staff above all else. Her contributions are immeasurable, her impact everlasting, and her passion unmatched. We are forever grateful.”
Assistant GM Matt Wade will serve as interim GM while Angel City searches for its next general manager.
Thursday’s news comes two months after Hucles Mangano, along with Uhrman, was suspended from conducting any duties related to player transactions for the remainder of 2024 following the NWSL’s discovery that Angel City circumvented the salary cap with five different players in 2023. The club was also fined $200,000 and deducted three points in the standings.
Angel City finished 12th of 14 National Women’s Soccer League teams in 2024. (The team would have finished 10th without the points deduction, missing the playoffs either way.)
The sale of Angel City to Willow Bay and Disney CEO Bob Iger closed in September. It valued Angel City at $250 million, more than doubling the previous league record set earlier this year.
“Being a part of the founding and creation of Angel City FC has been an experience unlike any other. I am proud of all that we have achieved together,” Hucles Mangano said in a statement. “I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with such a dedicated team of players and staff throughout my time with the club. As a former player who has spent nearly 40 years in sports, I’ve witnessed incredible growth in the game, and my time at Angel City is a special part of that. I’d like to thank every person in the organization — the players, staff, fans, investors, and the founders — for the vision and drive to do things differently. I wish the club continued success on and off the pitch.”
Angel City joins Bay FC, the Houston Dash, the Portland Thorns and Racing Louisville FC as NWSL teams currently without a full-time general manager.
