Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Luton Town on Sunday marked a fourth successive Premier League victory.

Currently, the Red Devils sit five points adrift of the top four after 25 matches played. Tottenham Hotspur sustained a costly loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers at home on Saturday, meaning United’s win moved them to within three points of Ange Postecoglou’s side.

United’s fixture schedule has them facing teams in the bottom half of the table in four of their next five matches, starting with Fulham at Old Trafford on February 24, so on paper, they’re favourites to claim pretty much the maximum points possible over the coming game weeks.

Wedged in between the fixtures though is a trip to the Etihad to take on second-placed, reigning champions Manchester City on March 3 for a high-stakes derby meeting. Last season, the Reds conceded four first-half goals, with both Phil Foden and Erling Haaland registering hat-tricks in the 6-3 clash.

As it stands, momentum is certainly with Erik ten Hag’s men and they must use this spirit to make something positive out of the remainder of the campaign.

Reacting to their win over the Hatters last night, Jamie Redknapp said in the Sky Sports studio: “They were relentless, Rasmus Hojlund’s red-hot right now. Second half on the counter-attack they had plenty of chances, they’re getting themselves on a bit of run, a bit of confidence. They can smell that top-four now, they can smell a bit of Champions League football, obviously with Spurs stuttering yesterday, it’s a huge result for them.”
