Hulk Hogan says he wanted to become “Triple H” and turn heel on the Ultimate Warrior after WrestleMania VI.
The WWE Hall of Famer dropped the WWE Championship to the Ultimate Warrior in the main event of WrestleMania in 1990. The match was a passing of the torch moment, meant to anoint the Warrior as the next face of the WWE.
For numerous reasons, that didn’t exactly work as planned, and Hogan enjoyed another title win in the main event of WrestleMania the following year.
However, if it was up to Hogan, he’d have turned heel as “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan that night. He revealed all to Barstool Rasslin’, where he spoke about his plans for WrestleMania VI.
Hulk Hogan claimed he wanted to turn heel on the Ultimate Warrior. He came up with the name “Triple H”, or “Hollywood Hulk Hogan” for his heel persona. He would later use that name when he formed the NWO in WCW.
“I wanted to turn into a bad guy after the Ultimate Warrior beat me. The reason I did was, I always like to know where we’re going with things. I like to work backwards a year. So at the end of the day, I went to Vince. I said, ‘Well, I don’t mind putting the Warrior over, but what’s next?’. And Vince goes, ‘Well, I don’t really know.'”
“I said, ‘What do you mean?’ He goes, ‘Well, I think your red and yellow run’s over.’ I said, ‘Well, number one, I disagree, but number two, if you feel that way and you’re the boss, let me do something different. Let me turn on him. Let me be Triple H Hollywood Hulk Hogan.’ And he said it wouldn’t work. It was just an ongoing saga with me and him, you know, but we agreed to disagree on a lot of stuff.”
Hogan has made this claim before. However, he has made a lot of claims over the years that have been disputed.
