Real Madrid chose to boycott the awards ceremony after learning their player had not won the Ballon d’Or – a decision which was criticized by many.
Real Madrid are incredibly disappointed not to have added another Ballon d’Or winner to their squad, which would have been a second Merengue crown in three years (after Karim Benzema in 2022). To top it off, Diario AS claim that Vinicius’ miss could end up having repercussions on his future.

Saudi Arabia has shown strong interest in Vinicius over the past six months, and club officials fear the Ballon d’Or failure could make the Brazilian superstar’s departure from the Santiago Bernabeu more likely, according to some Iberian media reports .
However, this would surely be unlikely – if anything, Vinicius would be more likely to want to stay at Real Madrid and have a much higher chance of winning another Ballon d’Or.
