Hyderabad: Commuters in Hyderabad are facing severe inconvenience as ongoing GHMC underground wiring works have brought traffic to a standstill on the critical Nanal Nagar-Mehdipatnam-Tolichowki stretch. The 3-km stretch, a major route connecting the city to the IT corridor in Hitex City, is taking an agonizing 1 hour to cross, leaving lakhs of travelers frustrated.

Turtle Pace of Work

Despite heavy traffic on this key route, the GHMC’s underground wiring work is progressing at a snail’s pace, with little to no visible progress. To make matters worse, all alternative sub-roads and service roads have also been blocked due to simultaneous works, leaving commuters with no escape from the gridlock.

A Question of Planning

The decision to dig up all roads, including service roads, on such an important route has raised serious questions about GHMC’s planning and execution. Traffic police have been deployed in large numbers to manage the situation, but their efforts are limited as 50% of the road is dug up, leaving the remaining lanes to bear the brunt of the overwhelming traffic flow.

Flyovers and Underpasses: Promises Unkept

Adding to the commuters’ frustration is the lack of progress on promised infrastructure. Just last week, news broke about flyovers and underpasses being sanctioned for this stretch. However, locals point out that similar announcements were made in 2018, with foundation stones inaugurated by local MLAs, yet no significant work has been initiated to date.

City Paralyzed

This ongoing crisis on one of Hyderabad’s most vital routes has paralyzed the city, causing massive delays and frustration for daily commuters. As the situation persists, residents are demanding immediate action and better planning to alleviate the traffic woes that have brought Hyderabad to a standstill.
