Consultant for RMC, Christophe Dugarry expressed his mea-culpa on a very dark episode in his career.

He was as controversial during his football career as in his new life as a consultant. Before establishing himself in the media landscape to become one of the most influential consultants in French football, Christophe Dugarry traveled through all the states when he was still on the pitch.

A talented striker often criticized for his lack of efficiency and his volcanic character, Dugarry repeatedly repeats that he “ was not a great player » when he points out the footballers in his profile. On RMC, the 1998 world champion remembered a sad episode.

“I have zero excuses, I am 100% at fault”

The year is 1999. Christophe Dugarry is playing at Olympique de Marseille. The Marseille club is engaged in a crazy European epic which will take it to the final of the UEFA Cup. At the semi-final stage, OM faced Bologna. And the striker admitted to having been at the origin of a general brawl after his teammate Peter Luccin was the victim of monkey cries.

“I’m behind, I see that the guys are starting to heckle Peter (Luccin), to push him around, Dugarry said.. Like a complete idiot, I get into the stretchers, I run and I go! I could have arrived quietly, told everyone to calm down. But I’m a complete idiot… The guys didn’t do anything to me. They’re not beating up my friend either. I have zero excuses, I am 100% at fault. I’m going to go further, it’s almost me who triggers the thing”. Suspended for the final against Parma (he received a total of 6 matches), Christophe Dugarry was unable to help his teammates, who lost sharply (0-3). No regrets for the main person concerned. “The best one won. Having all the starters wouldn’t have changed much.”
