Liverpool are looking for Jurgen Klopp’s successor as the German is about to leave the Premier League club at the end of the season.
After nine-years, Klopp is leaving the club having made Liverpool a force in the world of football and after winning the Premier League and the Champions League with them.
The Reds are looking for his replacement and it won’t be an easy task. They have identified a number of managers who they feel are good enough to take over at Anfield.
A new name has been added to the list of next potential Liverpool manager
Xabi Alonso appears to be the frontrunner because of his successful spell at Bayer Leverkusen and the connection he has with Liverpool.
Other names being mentioned in the media are Roberto De Zerbi, Ruben Amorim, Julian Nagelsmann and Simone Inzaghi.
However, talkSPORT pundit Alan Brazil has now added a new name to the picture and he has claimed that the Liverpool players would not mind seeing him in the Anfield dugout.
Klopp and Pep at LiverpoolThat name is of Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders.
“I am told the players wouldn’t mind the number two, Pep taking over,” Brazil said on talkSPORT, adding a new name to the list of candidates.
Dean Saunders replied: “I heard that as well. At least he [Lijnders] knows what’s going on there. It’s difficult, who do you give the job to? That club is that big.”
Why Lijnders would not be the right choice for Liverpool
The name of Lijnders has been confirmed by both Brazil and Saunders as someone who the players would like to see at the club.
Lijnders has been a worthy deputy to Klopp at Anfield and there is not doubt he has done a remarkable job at the club.
However, he has just been an assistant manager and the role of taking over a club, a big one like Liverpool, is a completely different ball game.
His experience in management has only been as a number two, while the other names being linked with the job are leading some of the biggest teams in world football at the moment.
