Nobby Solano has been talking about one of the best decisions he has ever made.

The former Peru international pointing to signing for Newcastle United back in 1998.

Where does time go?

Can it really be 26 years ago when Kenny Dalglish signed Nobby Solano???

Nobby Solano declaring ‘I arrived in a wonderful place where the passion for football was amazing.’

I can’t disagree with any of that.

Nobby Solano late in his career also turned out 11 times for Hull City, his penultimate club in a long career, Hartlepool the very final one.

Nobby Solano talking to official Hull City media about arriving at Newcastle United in summer 1998:

“Everything was new, first of all the language; I couldn’t say a word in English or in Geordie!

“It is fantastic to say many years on now that it was one of my best decisions in football.

“I arrived in a wonderful place where the passion for football was amazing.

“I didn’t realise how much passion there is in English football in general.

“It was a difficult period as Kenny Dalglish was the guy signing me in 1998 and he was only in charge of me for about three months before Ruud Gullit who didn’t have much experience.

“At the end of the day, I wanted to play football and enjoy it so as soon as I started to play games and start matches, I was really happy.

“Fantastic fans.

“It is an amazing town, amazing people and I am so glad to be a part of this club.

“Shearer was captain at the club with players like with Rob Lee, Gary Speed, Shay Given and Steve Harper and the local boys who have been at the club for so long helped me know about the football. I was very proud to play with Alan in his final seasons of his career.

“He was elated with me when I put the ball into the box and he was there to put it into the net.

“Alan was always happy with the players assisting him or giving him the ball, a bit like when you give a little toy or a bottle of milk to a baby.”
