Football pundit Alan Shearer has claimed that England boss Gareth Southgate could snub Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford for his Euro 2024 squad.

Rashford has been in the news for mostly the wrong reasons this season. The Man United star has failed to match the heights of last season.

He has been involved in controversies off the pitch while his performance on the pitch has severely deteriorated.

Jude Bellingham’s goal in the 95th minute salvaged a 2-2 draw between the Three Lions and Belgium on Tuesday night, after the team had lost to Brazil.

Shearer feels England star could be left at home for Euro 2024

Rashford only played 15 minutes against Brazil and was not used against Belgium, therefore Shearer believes Southgate may have to make a few high-profile changes before the Euro.

Writing for The Athletic, Shearer said about the Man United player:

‘If Rashford plays well between now and the end of the season, then that could potentially force the manager’s hand. But I don’t think he’s a certainty to go, no.

‘He’s not a centre-forward, he doesn’t want to play there. He’d be going as a wide forward who can play as a striker in an emergency.

Rashford’s place is not certain in the England team.

‘You can tell from his body language that he doesn’t want to play there for Manchester United. If he’s going to be in the squad, it wouldn’t be ahead of Harry Kane, Watkins or Toney, it’d be as a wide forward.’

England star has endured a difficult season

Rashford’s issues off the pitch and his poor form for the Red Devils have even seen him get linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

Alongside the goal drought, there have been whispers of a falling out with Erik ten Hag, the Dutchman apparently not impressed by the player’s 12-hour drinking spree in Belfast back in January.

The Three Lions have a number of players who could be deployed in the wider positions and they are showing form in the league, unlike Rashford.

It would be a massive blow for Rashford if he misses out on making the squad for Euro, as he has been a regular under Southgate.
