A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Sowunmi, has stated that the 2023 presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar has not spoken about his 2017 ambition to anyone.
He explained that he has asked Atiku about his 2027 presidential ambition twice.
Sowunmi disclosed this during an interview with News Central TV.
He noted the the PDP is a very structural party and will not give out its ticket at any level to people.
The former presidential campaign spokesman for Atiku insisted that candidates must contest in PDP’s primary elections for every ticket.
Sowunmi said, “The PDP is a very interesting and structured party; we are not like our rivals. We don’t ‘dash’ people the presidential ticket or any other ticket. Every PDP ticket, from the smallest one — councillor — people have to contest for it in the primaries, same with the governorship. The Presidency is not any different.
“I have insisted that it’s too early for the PDP to be talking about the presidential election in 2027. Why? Because we need to fix the vehicle that will carry everybody there; otherwise, what’s the point? So, I think it’s a little bit premature.
“In any case, Atiku has not told anybody in clear terms that he’s going to run; I have asked him twice, with months inbetween.”
