Hajiya Lami Bichi, sister of the Secretary to the Kano State Government (SSG), Dr Baffa Bichi, has left the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Lami, a prominent women’s mobiliser in Kano State, announced her defection during a visit to the residence of the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I. Jibrin, in Abuja.
During the announcement, she revealed her intention to persuade her brother, Baffa, to also switch to the APC.
In last year’s senatorial elections, Baffa contested for the Kano North Senatorial District under the NNPP but lost to Senator Barau, who polled 234,652 votes against his 177,014.
According to a statement on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the Deputy President of the Senate on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Lami said, “Today, along with my friends and political associates across Kano State, we have left the NNPP to join the APC. I will bring my brother, Baffa Bichi, to the APC soon.”
In response, Senator Barau welcomed Lami and her group to the APC, stating that the party is large enough to accommodate all Nigerians.
The statement further noted that hundreds of NNPP members from Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State had joined the APC on Tuesday.
