Speaking with the club's media on Friday, Amorim admitted that it is forgotten ex-Chelsea star Mount who has impressed him a lot so far in training.

“Mason Mount… I have to tell you I love that kid", said the new boss on Friday after clips of his first training session circulated online.

In the clips, Amorim can be seen praising Mount for his movement, and he spoke highly of the England midfielder, stating that: “You can look in his eyes that he wants this so bad. And this is the most important thing for me.

“I know he was suffering from injuries, he was not on the pitch, but now he’s trying to stay fit and we hope he can continue to be fit, to show all the talent that he’s shown, for example, in Chelsea.”

Having moved to Manchester last summer for a fee of £55million, the 25-year-old made just eight starts across last campaign and only three so far this season.

Since his move up north, Mount has contributed just one goal and one assist, having suffered with various injuries, including missing 21 games with a calf problem last season.

Mount's only goal in red so far came in last season's 1-1 draw with Brentford, scoring in the 96th minute at the Gtech Community Stadium.

However, the Portsmouth-born playmaker's luck may be about to change, as Amorim revealed: "I have two positions for Mason Mount, so he should be very happy!"

Amorim's favoured 3-4-3 system which he played at Sporting in the Portuguese top-flight also lends well to Mount, with the boss adding that 'it's perfect for him'.

Thomas Tuchel, the former Chelsea boss, utilised a similar system at the London side during the 2021-22 season, during which Mount notched 13 goals and 17 assists across 50 starts in all competitions.

Amorim, whilst known for a 3-4-3 system, suggested that he may deviate from this on occasion, focusing on the 'game model', rather than a specific set-up.

“When I think as a player or as a team-mate of Manchester United, it is not a system or formation, it's like the character of the players, the way they see the club," he added.

Manchester United face Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Saturday afternoon before hosting Bodø / Glimt at Old Trafford on Thursday.
