The Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has stated that the quest for political power should not be an end in itself, but a means to national development.

Consequently, he has committed to a free, fair and peaceful elections in December polls devoid of any acrimony.

“Our pursuit of power must be paired with the need to allow the Ghanaian to continue to enjoy his or her peace. Ghana will exist long after we’ve all left the scene,” he stated.

Speaking during an interaction with the media in Accra, yesterday, to respond to questions from the media after the party’s manifesto launch, Dr Bawumia said no blood should be spilled or single life should be lost as result of the impending elections.

He said the NPP under his leadership would not do anything to mar the peace of the country in his pursuit to become the President of Ghana.

Dr Bawumia said NPP would run a campaign of ideas and not preach war.

“We in NPP will conduct ourselves in a manner worthy of a democratic group. Our main goal is that at the end of the contest, we carry on with our lives secure in the knowledge that there is work to do, work to sustain the rebounding economy,” Dr Bawumia stated.

The NPP Presidential candidate said war retarded development, adding that “to those who threaten war, mayhem and violence, my message to them is that this isn’t Ghanaian.”

Touching on the economy, he said what Ghana needed was an upgrade and not a reset.

He said the policies outlined in his party’s manifesto were to sustain and expand the country’s economy for a rebound.

Dr Bawumia said a rebound economy would create new jobs while implementing wide-ranging tax reforms to build the country into a world-class digital economy.

In addition, he said, this would reduce the cost of living, expand public infrastructure, provide better healthcare for all, implement affinity action for women and girls and expand educational opportunities for all.
