Arsenal legend Ian Wright can’t see past a Liverpool win at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Manchester United go into the game following a devastating 4-3 defeat against Chelsea during the week. The only statistic that goes in our favour ahead of this huge clash is Liverpool have never beaten United at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag.
Sadly, however, Wright thinks that will change this weekend as the Reds hope to bounce back from two back-to-back away defeats in the league to Brentford and Chelsea.
Liverpool are coming off a 3-1 victory against Sheffield United and lead the Premier League with a two-point gap, while Arsenal and Man City trail them as title contenders.
United fans will be hoping for a repeat of the last meeting between the sides when the Reds forced a late win in stoppage time to ruin Jurgen Klopp’s hopes of FA Cup success in his final season at Liverpool.
Speaking on the Ringer FC Podcast, Wright made it clear that he fears for United when they take on Liverpool tomorrow. It’s not something we want to be reading a day before the game, but it’s understandable why neutrals would take such a view.
“I fear for Man United,” Wright said.
“I just feel like Liverpool will be much more focused than they were in that FA Cup game and be even more ruthless.
“We know United can be ruthless and [Alejandro] Garnacho alone is going to be a threat. But Liverpool will want to go there and put them in their place.
“I worry for United because I can see another big hiding, I could see them getting a good hiding to be honest.”
There is no denying that we go into the game as underdogs, yet again, but that didn’t stop us from showing up last time out and showing great character. It feels like the manager needs a couple of big results with growing uncertainty over his future.
