A former Member of Parliament for Mion Constituency (1997-2001) in the Northern Region and retired lecturer, Ibrahim Alabira, was on Friday outdoored Sakpe-Naa, the chief of Sakpe in the Mion District, following his enskinment by the Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Mahama Abukari, at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.
The Sakpe-Naa, adorned in white smock and a hat to match, riding on horseback, a symbol of kingship in the, was ushered into the Sakpe Palace amidst singing of traditional songs and drumming.
The colourful event was attended by large crowd of kit and kins.
Sakpe-Naa expressed appreciation to the kingmakers for his elevation in an interview with the Ghanaian Times, and pledged to bring his influence to bear in the development of the traditional area in particular, and Dagbon in general.
Sakpe –Naa Alabira Ibrahim, a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Specialist and development worker, is responsible for Ghana Agricultural Sector Investment Programme (GASIP) M&E system with over 15 years of experience in planning, designing, and implementing M&E systems for agricultural development projects.
His work experience include working with Feed the Future USAID-Ghana Agriculture Policy Project, implemented by Chemonics International Inc. USA; the Expanding Climate Change Resilience in Northern Ghana project, implemented by Global Communities; the Millennium Challenge Account, Ghana Programme (Compact 1) – Commercial Development of Farmer-based Organisations, implemented by the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA).
Sakpe-Naa had also worked in the public sector at the Ministry Local Government & Rural Development and at the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) to monitor the implementation of the Ghana Poverty Reduction Strategy.
He had gained extensive knowledge of rural development issues related to development of crop value chains and farmer-based organisations, private sector agribusinesses, decentralisation, and participation of civil society organisations in the policy formulation process.
Sakpe-Naa studied Mathematics at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, and at the University of Bristol, UK.
He is the Global President of the Old NAVASCAN Union, an association of old students of Navrongo Senior High School (NAVASCO) in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region.
