Ibrahima Konate admits that his connection to Paris Saint-Germain makes links with a move ‘logical’ but he is happy at Liverpool and is not looking for the exit.
The 25-year-old has been touted as a possible summer signing for PSG after three seasons at Liverpool have passed without him really nailing down a starting place.
The France international started 17 Premier League games this season, the same amount as the previous campaign, with just 11 in his first year in England after signing from RB Leipzig in 2021.
The emergence of Jarell Quansah at Liverpool has made it more difficult for Konate to earn a place in the starting XI alongside Virgil van Dijk, with Joe Gomez also competing for a spot.
Despite this, Konate says he is content at Anfield and not pushing for a move to Ligue 1, even though he has been linked with the club he grew up watching with his brothers.
‘I’m happy at Liverpool so my head is there. I don’t even think about it. I am focused on the pitch and the Euros this summer,’ he told RMC Sport.
‘It’s a bit logical because I was born in France and in Paris. I have six older brothers and they all support PSG. We watched a lot of matches together and I went to the stadium a lot when I was younger.
‘There is a little story with PSG but I made my own. I played at Sochaux, then Leipzig before Liverpool. I am happy there and I am not paying too much attention.’
Konate is in the France squad for Euro 2024 but there is plenty of competition at centre-back as the likes of Dayot Upamecano, Joules Kounde and William Saliba have also been called up by Didier Deschamps.
The defender has two years left on his contract with Liverpool and the club are keen to sign him up to a new deal, but L’Equipe report that talks have been going on for some time and are yet to be concluded.
