Fabian Schar has had another stellar season for Newcastle United.
Along with Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon, Fabian Schar completed a trio who were not only very high quality but also very durable.
The trio playing an incredible number of minutes between them, as Eddie Howe’s squad was hit by an unprecedented injury situation.
Despite Schar’s superb and consistent form under Eddie Howe these past couple of years, the defender has increasingly struggled to get games for Switzerland. Once a first team constant, he has found himself consistently behind Akanji (Man City) and Elvedi (Borussia Monchengladbach).
However, the timing is now looking perfect.
Having kept only one clean sheet in eight internationals, the Switzerland Head Coach brought Fabian Schar back into the starting eleven in March and they have now not conceded a goal in almost five hours of football.
Clean sheets against Denmark, Republic of Ireland and Estonia, seeing Switzerland look to have a real quality backline heading to Germany.
Tuesday night saw Fabian Schar with a perfect warm up match for the European Championships. Playing on the right of a back three with Akanji and Elvedi, they restricted Estonia to just three efforts on target in a commanding 4-0 win.
It looks a no-brainer now for the Swiss Head Coach to stick with this formation and top quality defensive trio.
Switzerland play Austria on Saturday in their final warm up and then Fabian Schar and his international teammates kick off their group in Germany with Hungary on 15 June, Scotland on 19 June, then Germany on 23 June.
Good luck to Fabian Schar in what could well be his last international tournament for the 32 year old.
