EXCLUSIVE: Golden Globe winner Idris Elba (Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw) is set to star in action-thriller Hammer Down, which Black Bear will be launching for international sales ahead of the American Film Market next week.
Oscar winner Charles Roven (Oppenheimer, The Dark Knight trilogy) and Madison Weireter (Justice League) are producing for Atlas Entertainment, alongside Idris Elba (Luther: The Fallen Son) and Gina Carter (See How They Run) for 22 Summers.
Simon Hatt, James Gunn’s former assistant who went on to serve as co-producer on Suicide Squad and exec producer on Guardians Of The Galaxy, is directing from a screenplay that he also wrote, based on his own short.
The synopsis reads: “Mac (Idris Elba) is the best at what he does, driving a big rig truck across the country with a “no questions asked” policy about the goods he transports. When he takes his tenacious teenage daughter along for a job, they are tracked and attacked by a relentless group of criminals that will stop at nothing to secure the consignment he has been entrusted to deliver. Pursued by merciless killers and with the police hot on their trail, Mac and his daughter must work together to prevent the cargo falling into dangerous hands and survive to live another day.”
Upcoming for Elba is the second season of Apple’s Hijack, and movies Sonic The Hedgehog 3, Kathryn Bigelow’s untitled White House thriller and Amazon movie Heads Of State.
Upcoming for leading Hollywood producer Roven is Amazon MGM Studios film Mercy while projects in the works include Cary Fukanaga’s 77 Blackout and the Cleopatra update with Gal Gadot.
