Cody Gakpo has expressed optimism about Liverpool’s future under new manager Arne Slot.
The Merseyside club underwent a major change this summer as Jurgen Klopp left the club after a nine-year-long stint as their manager and Arne Slot has come in to fill the big boots. Liverpool are hoping that the Dutch manager will be able to help them maintain the levels reached under the German boss.
Dutch attacker Cody Gakpo recently talked about their new manager and the changes that have happened following his arrival at the club.
While speaking on Viaplay, Gakpo said via Sportnieuws.nl: “A lot has changed compared to Klopp, but he makes a very good impression. It is not necessarily better or worse, but it has mainly changed,”
“Last season it was more from the counter, but that is only advantageous. We will soon have mastered both systems. That can take us far.”
While Liverpool have seen a lot of success with the help of Klopp’s tactics, Slot is looking to implement his own style and Gakpo feels it could help the team significantly as they will be able to master two different styles and adjust according to the demands of the situation.
The 25-year-old winger seems quite happy about the fact that he will have more clarity about his role under Slot. While he was used as a number nine, a left-winger as well as in the centre of the park under Klopp, Gakpo will be primarily used on the left flank from here on.
The Dutch international further added: “The matches in the preparation were good right away and we also won that first match against Ipswich. Then you immediately have plus points within the club and you are already in. If it continues like this, we can make it a good year.”

Despite all the major changes that have happened at the club since the departure of Jurgen Klopp, Gapko still seems quite confident about Liverpool going a long way this season. They have had a great pre-season and started the season in the best possible way with an easy 2-0 win over Ipswich Town. The Dutch attacker feels they have made the perfect start and if things continue in a similar fashion, they could go a long way.
