The Asiwaju of Ijesaland, Osun State, Yinka Fasuyi, on Friday, inaugurated a seven-member committee saddled with the responsibility of monitoring funds accruing to the six local government areas in Ijesaland.

Fasuyi, while performing the inauguration in Ilesa, explained that the ‘Ijesaland Independent Development Monitors’, was to monitor how funds going into the coffers of Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Oriade and Obokun local government areas were being utilised for the development of various communities.

He added that the idea of having an independent committee to monitor the use of resources was borne out of the recent landmark judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, which affirmed the autonomy of the council areas.

Explaining the committee’s mode of operations, Fasuyi said, “The committee is to ensure that the local government administrations in Ijesaland are run transparently and accountably in a way that delivers result-based administration and dividends to the people in all the six local government areas in ljesaland.

Responding on behalf of the committee, the Chairman, Adigun Adewoye, maintained that the group will deliver on its mandate.
