The colossal collapse to PSG in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal appeared to be the final nail in the coffin for Xavi as Barcelona manager.

After all, the manager had strongly advocated for months that he would leave at the end of the season, and a defeat of such proportion would certainly not help in creating any roads back.

A long meeting was held last night between the manager and the board with the same topic as the objective. For close to two hours, the parties negotiated and reports state that the manager will now continue at least for one more year.

A heartfelt message

While the likes of Joan Laporta, Deco, Rafa Yuste and Echevarria negotiated the serious matter with with Hernandez brothers, fans and media outside the venue were caught up in suspense with no clarity as to the progress.

In such a situation, one fan left a heartfelt message to Xavi in the best possible way that he could – by leaving a written note on the windshield of the manager’s car.

Only two words were scribbled on the piece of paper that lay on the front of Xavi’s car – ‘Xavi quedate’, literally translating to ‘Xavi stay’.

While it is unknown if the coach himself got a chance to see the note, it will overwhelm him to see such staunch support for his continuity.

Allowed to dream once more

As a legend of the club, Xavi was always the right man to take Barcelona forward. With the fans’ backing and love, he was seen as able to soak in the pressure and take the team out of the trenches.

In winning La Liga last season, Xavi partially accomplished the same. This season, however, started disastrously and even a late bloom could not fetch the team any silverware.

Next season, being his final contractual season at the club as it stands, will be Xavi’s chance to shine and see glory with the club of his dreams. After all, that is exactly what passionate fans across the globe yearn to witness.
