No fewer than 90 foreign nationals have been arrested for alleged cybercrime-related offences.
Operatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service, in collaboration with other security agencies, apprehended the foreigners.
The Rivers State Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Y.I. Abdulmajeed confirmed their arrest in a statement on Tuesday.
Abdulmajeed said the raid on their hideout in Rivers State followed an intelligence report on their activities in the area.
He disclosed that a total of 94 suspects were arrested, including four Nigerians. Of the remaining suspects, 85 are Cameroonians, while five are Chadians.
He said, “The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service has arrested 90 illegal immigrants for cybercrimes perpetrated at different levels to swindle innocent Nigerians.
“The cybercriminals were arrested in collaboration with other sister security agencies at their hideout in Rivers State, following credible intelligence.
“A total of 94 persons were arrested. Their profiling revealed that 85 of them are Cameroonians, five are Chadians, and four are Nigerians. Of the 94 people, 74 are males and 20 are females.
“It was also gathered that all 90 foreigners entered the country through unauthorised entry points. None of them presented residence cards or any form of travel documents during interrogation.
“Two other Nigerians from Rivers State, who provided accommodation and served as their landlords, were also arrested.”
Abdulmajeed further revealed that the Comptroller General of Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, has issued a directive for the swift and thorough investigation of the matter.
“The CG has also mandated the prompt prosecution of all suspects involved,” he added.
