The Labour Party (LP) has called on the Supreme Court to annul the 2023 Imo State Governorship election and mandate a fresh poll.

At a press conference in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, argued that the election results were invalid due to significant over-voting.

He claimed that the total votes counted—over 700,000—exceeded the certified number of accredited voters, which was just over 500,000, creating a discrepancy of over 200,000 votes.

Ifoh stressed that this over-voting violates Section 53 of the Electoral Act 2010, which mandates the cancellation of elections affected by such discrepancies. He warned that failing to address this issue could undermine public trust and set a dangerous precedent for Nigeria’s electoral integrity.

The Labour Party, led by Senator Athan Achonu, is urging the Supreme Court to correct this alleged injustice and uphold the principles of fairness and transparency in Imo State’s governance.
