Author of a goal and an assist, Ismaïla Sarr was the great architect of Senegal’s victory against Cameroon (3-1) this Friday at the CAN. The Lions of Teranga are qualified for the round of 16.

Recruited this summer by Olympique de Marseille, Ismaïla Sarr had a complicated start under his new colors. In selection, however, he is considered an important element by Aliou Cissé. Once again starting against Cameroon (3-1 victory for Senagal), this Friday during the shock of the 2nd day of the CAN group stage, the former Rennais was the man of the match.

Author of the opener in the 16th minute of play, Ismaïla Sarr offered a decisive pass for ex-Strasbourg Habib Diallo (71st), thus allowing Senegal to make the break. And it was necessary since the Indomitable Lions reduced the score through their Nantes defender Jean-Charles Castelletto (83rd). The Senegalese then suffered at the end of the game, but held on, and even killed the suspense thanks to their star Sadio Mané (90th + 5).

The Indomitable Lions in great danger

Winners of Gambia on the first day, the Lions of Teranga, defending champion, have a second success in a row in this CAN 2024 and are thus qualified for the round of 16. For Cameroon, the task is seriously complicated. One thing is certain, Rigobert Song’s men will absolutely have to win against Gambia next Tuesday to hope to continue their path in the tournament.
