Barcelona’s exceptional start to the 2024/25 season has seen several key contributors, one of whom happens to be teenage defender Pau Cubarsi.

The 17-year-old La Masia graduate’s ball-playing abilities and his penchant for playing line-breaking forward passes have been a critical factor in Hansi Flick’s side making such a positive start to the season.

As such, it came as a surprise when Cubarsi was left out of the Spain national team squad for their UEFA Nations League matches this month. Instead, the teenager was included in the Under-21 squad by Santi Denia.

However, now, SPORT reports that there is a good chance that Pau Cubarsi could be back in the Spain senior squad during next month’s international break.

The reigning European champions are scheduled to play Denmark and Serbia in the UEFA Nations League next month.

However, manager Luis de la Fuente will be unable to call upon Robin Le Normand for the game against Denmark, as he is suspended after being sent off in Spain’s previous match against Switzerland.

This could possibly pave the road for Cubarsi to get called up to the senior Spain squad instead of another stint with the Under-21s.

The 17-year-old Barcelona wonderkid was named on the list of probables for the UEFA Euro 2024, but ended up being cut from the squad. However, Cubarsi did play a key role as Spain won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics.

Having made a fine start to the new season, the youngster will be eagerly awaiting a call-up to the Spanish senior national team, which could come in October.
