EXCLUSIVE: Industry star Myha’la has joined Lily James in 20th Century’s upcoming movie inspired by the story of Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder of Bumble and co-founder of Tinder.

We understand filming is due to get underway in LA early next month.

20th Century Studios and Ethea Entertainment, the production company formed by Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay, are behind the project, which has James in the lead role.

Myha’la will play Tisha who works for the Tinder co-founders and becomes close friends with Whitney whom she follows to Bumble.

After co-founding Tinder, Wolfe Herd left the dating app in 2014. She went on to launch competitor Bumble that same year. In 2021, the company went public and she officially became one of the youngest self-made billionaires at age 31. She would step down as CEO in 2023 but by then the app had become a huge success with several divisions that are still thriving today.

Plot details are still relatively under wraps as the film is an inspiration and not based on Wolfe Herd’s life and it is unknown exactly how the film will compare to the actual origin story.

Lily James will produce alongside producer duo Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay. Rachel Lee Goldenberg is directing from a script written by herself, Bill Parker and Kim Caramele. The project will include Gala Gordon as an executive producer, and Sarah Shepard will be overseeing the project for 20th Century Studios.

Rising actress Myha’la (now known mononymously) will next be seen reprising her lead role as Harper Stern in the third season of HBO/BBC hit series Industry which returns this August. She was most recently seen starring in the Netflix/Sam Esmail directed film Leave The World Behind with Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke and Mahershala Ali. Other credits include Sony’s Dumb Money, A24 thriller Bodies, Bodies, Bodies, TV series Black Mirror and Modern Love.

Cinderella and Baby Driver star James is coming off well-received The Iron Claw.

Myha’la is repped by UTA and 11:11 Entertainment.
