The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced plans to deploy more than 5,000 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System machines for the Edo State governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.

According to a senior INEC official, who spoke on condition of anonymity on Thursday, the commission is gearing up to ensure a smooth and efficient electoral process across the state’s 4,519 polling units and 211 collation centres.

These centres include 192 ward centres, 18 local government centres, and the state collation centre in Benin City.

“More than 5,000 BVAS devices will be deployed for the Edo State governorship election,” the official said.

On April 27, INEC scheduled a mock voter accreditation for September 10, 2024, in Edo State.

The exercise aims to test the BVAS deployment and the electronic result upload process to the INEC Result Viewing portal.

Also, the commission revealed that the installation and configuration of the BVAS machines to be deployed on election day were completed.
