INEOS chiefs are already mapping out plans for how they can improve the Manchester United squad upon the culmination of the 2024/2025 term.
Given the number of players who’ll likely be leaving, there’s certainly no harm in putting the feelers out there regarding potential acquisitions.
Of the six players with contracts expiring in 2025, three are centre-halves: Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire, though the latter has a one-year option which could well be extended in the new year, depending on how he fares in the coming months.
Aside from the former captain, Evans and Lindelof are almost certain to be departing Old Trafford. Evans may even decide to pull the curtains on his playing career for good, given that he’ll be 37 years old when his tenure ends.
That’s why United have begun scouring the market for dynamic defensive options to join Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro in the long-term project – whether that be under Erik ten Hag or any potential successor to the Dutchman.
Reds begin targeting PL-proven England star
As such, Marc Guehi is believed to be an option on the shortlist of Dan Ashworth and co, with Fichajes claiming the Reds would be willing to fork out £62.7million to prise the defender from Selhurst Park.
Newcastle United failed in their three attempts to sign the 19-cap England international over the summer. Their final proposal was reportedly in the region of £60m, including add-ons, and Crystal Palace had no desire to sell their stalwart skipper for such a fee.
However, previous reports have suggested that Guehi does not plan to extend his current terms, which run until 2026, with the Eagles, and they will know that they simply cannot lose such a sought-after talent for free.
Per TeamTalk, Liverpool are also monitoring the 24-year-old, whom StatmanDave labelled ‘solid as a rock’.
