Rudi Voller, the director of the German national football team, has shared his hopeful outlook regarding the recovery of Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

It must be noted that the Barcelona keeper faced a serious knee injury during a match against Villarreal, which initially raised concerns that he might be sidelined for the entire season.

However, recent updates indicate that he is making significant progress following his surgery for a ruptured patellar tendon in his right leg. There are even suggestions that he could return to play in the latter part of the current season.

Voller’s optimism

During a recent draw for the German Cup, Voller spoke about Ter Stegen’s condition and provided insights into the German Football Federation’s plans as they aim to secure a place in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Voller highlighted that he had the chance to visit Barcelona and meet with Ter Stegen, emphasizing the importance of supporting him during his recovery.

He acknowledged that Ter Stegen’s role as the starting goalkeeper for the national team has become crucial, especially following the retirement of the legendary Manuel Neuer.

“He deserves that we wait for him and give him the feeling that he is suffering a little bit, not only for the club but also for the World Cup,” said Voller as quoted by SPORT.

He confidently stated that Ter Stegen’s recovery is progressing well and that there remains a possibility of him returning to the pitch before the end of the 2024-25 season.

The director expressed optimism, suggesting that while a return this season is conceivable, he is also prepared for the possibility that Ter Stegen may not return until next year.

“Maybe I can do it this year and if not, next year I will go full speed ahead,” he added.

Voller’s remarks reflect a commitment to Ter Stegen’s recovery, highlighting the importance of patience and support as he works towards getting back to top form for both his club and the national team.
