Barcelona are facing a challenging situation as a recent report from AS highlights growing concerns over the absence of key players Frenkie de Jong and Ansu Fati, both of whom have yet to be given a clear timeline for their return.

The uncertainty surrounding their return to action is a significant blow to the team, especially as the club grapples with difficulties in both bringing in new signings and managing player departures.

Barcelona’s struggle to strengthen the squad is mirrored by the ongoing issues within the team, particularly regarding the fitness of crucial players. Ronald Araujo, de Jong, Ansu, and Gavi remain sidelined, and their recoveries are shrouded in uncertainty.

A long case of Frenkie de Jong

De Jong’s ankle issues have persisted for quite some time now, casting a shadow over his availability for the upcoming La Liga season.

Despite initial optimism about his recovery, the Dutch international missed the entire pre-season tour, and it now seems likely that he will also sit out Barcelona’s La Liga opener against Valencia

His absence is not just a temporary setback; it has raised serious concerns about a potential chronic injury. This is particularly worrying as de Jong injured the same ankle three times last season, causing him to miss several months due to his most recent setback.

There is more than what meets the eye

The situation is further complicated by the fact that de Jong’s market value is likely to take a hit due to his injury struggles, making the option of selling him this summer less appealing.

With his salary set to increase significantly this season, Barcelona may find themselves in a difficult financial situation if de Jong remains unavailable for an extended period.

Similarly, the situation with Ansu remains unclear, and there is no definitive date for his return.

Ansu, who had high hopes of making a strong impact this season, suffered a major setback after picking up a foot injury during training. This injury ruled him out of the upcoming US tour, further delaying his comeback.
