The Northern Elders Progressive Group has commended President Bola Tinubu’s bold approach to tackling insecurity in the northern region, praising his “Fansan Yamma” strategy for yielding significant positive results.

In a statement issued in Kaduna on Thursday, Chairman of the Arewa Elders Progressive Group in the Northwest, Mustafa Dutsin Ma, applauded Tinubu’s decision to take the fight to the bandits’ hideouts, describing it as a “major achievement” in the quest for peace and security.

According to the Northern Elders, President Tinubu’s aggressive approach, which involves using military force to crush bandits without mercy, has shown promising results.

The group cited the recent visit of the Minister of State for Defense, Mohammed Matawalle, to the epicentre of banditry in Sokoto State as a testament to the President’s bravery and commitment.

“We are convinced with greater joy that the federal government under President Tinubu is ready to approach the issue of insecurity aggressively, taking the bull by the horns to destroy bandits’ enclaves, reaching them in their places without mercy,” the group stated.

The Northern Elders expressed confidence in Tinubu’s ability to tackle the issue head-on, urging northern governors to collaborate with the federal government to achieve lasting success in the fight against banditry.

The group specifically praised the Governor of Sokoto, Ahmed Aliyu, for bringing federal might to bear against the challenges, describing his efforts as “commendable.”

The Northern Elders assured Tinubu of their fatherly role of advising, support, and goodwill to achieve his objectives of ensuring peace, unity, and cohesion for all Nigerians.

The group also commended Minister Bello Matawalle, the Chief of Defense Staff, Christopher Musa, and gallant soldiers for their sacrifices in bringing peace and security to areas previously uninhabitable due to insecurity.

The Northern Elders advised the president to extend the gesture of on-the-spot visits by the Minister of State for Defense and military commanders to other neglected states in the region to boost morale and military operations.
