Inside Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ ‘hell on Earth’ Brooklyn jail that once held R. Kelly, Ghislaine Maxwell

After Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested and indicted on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, the hip-hop mogul was held without bond at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, NY.

The jail — which previously housed R. Kelly, who was sentenced to more than 30 years in prison for child sex crimes, sex trafficking and racketeering, and Ghislaine Maxwell, who was sentenced to 20 years for her role in helping Jeffrey Epstein abuse young girls — has a reputation for poor conditions.

The concrete structure, which opened in 1994 and houses more than 1,200 people, has been troubled with bloody fights, food contamination, murder and suicides, according to the New York Times. Additionally, an electrical fire once left inmates without heat in the middle of freezing temperatures.

The Metropolitan Detention Center became the main prison in New York when its sister jail in Manhattan was closed in 2021 due to poor conditions. (Convicted sex offender Epstein was found dead in his Manhattan jail cell of an apparent suicide in 2019.)

An attorney for Edwin Cordero, an inmate who was killed in the Brooklyn detention center in July from injuries he sustained in a fight, called the facility “an overcrowded, understaffed and neglected federal jail that is hell on Earth.”

US Magistrate Judge Robyn Tarnofsky denied Combs, 54, bail in his sex trafficking and racketeering case Tuesday, ordering him to stay behind bars until his trial begins.

The “Act Bad” rapper’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo, pleaded with the judge to release his client on $50 million bond, arguing that the conditions at the Brooklyn prison were “horrific.”

However, the judge took the prosecution’s side due to Combs’ history of violence, substance abuse and obstruction.

One of Combs’ violent incidents was caught on a 2016 hotel video surveillance and released to the public in May. In the clip, the Sean John founder violently attacked his then-girlfriend, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, as she tried to escape in an elevator.

The dad of seven is currently facing at least eight lawsuits accusing him of rape and sexual assault, among other crimes.

Combs has pleaded not guilty to the charges. Agnifilo is planning to appeal the judge’s decision to hold his client without bail.
