Victorious Monday evening in the “Derby della Madonnina” against AC Milan (1-2), Inter Milan validated their twentieth Italian championship title. The party is complete for the Nerazzurri.
It’s an evening that will stay in the memory of Inter Milan supporters for a very long time. Very large leader of Serie A, Simone Inzaghi’s team was Monday evening the host of its neighbor AC Milan, as part of the 33rd day of Serie A. And the objective was clear for the Nerazzurri : win to be crowned Italian champions for the twentieth time in their history. The mission was accomplished as they won 1-2 at San Siro. From now on, and for the first time in its existence, Inter Milan will be able to play with two stars on their jersey.
Well before this match, many AC Milan fans chose not to watch it. Seeing the rival be crowned and at the same time passing their team in the number of titles won in Serie A (Milan is at nineteen), it was too much for them. And they were right since Inter won. First of all, it was a 100% home defense goal that started the debates, following a curled corner from the left by Benjamin Pavard, catapulted with a header by Francesco Acerbi into the back of Mike Maignan’s net (0-1, 18th).
Theo Hernandez sees red
At the very start of the second half, it was again a Frenchman from Inter who stood out since Marcus Turam went to deceive his opponent and nevertheless teammate in the French team (0-2, 49th). However, AC Milan did not do poorly during the game. Stefano Pioli’s protégés had a plethora of chances. They managed to convert one, on an opportunistic header from Fikayo Tomori (1-2, 80th). But Inter resisted despite the pressure. And the tension too, as almost always in this boiling derby. Theo Hernandez and Denzel Dumfries came to blows and collected a direct red, just like Davide Calabria who wanted to participate in the scuffle (90th + 5).
A new 2-1 in terms of cards, once again to the disadvantage of AC Milan. At the final whistle, the Rossoneri players quickly returned to their locker room while Inter Milan and its supporters let their joy explode, making the stands of San Siro tremble, which finally had the air of Giuseppe Meazza. Inter Milan is now the second club in the number of titles in Serie A, still far from Juventus’ thirty-six. But the two stars that will appear on the Nerazzuro jersey next season are priceless.
