Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta was asked about a comparison between Simone Inzaghi and legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
The Serie A outfit are enjoying a strong season with Simone Inzaghi in the dugout.
Inter reached the Champions League final last season, only to suffer defeat against Man City. They could be back again this year after picking up a deserved 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Round of 16 on Tuesday night.
Inzaghi will feel they wasted opportunities in front of goal and should have scored more on the night to cushion their lead ahead of the second leg.
Prior to the game, Marotta was asked by Mediaset (via FCInter1908) about Inzaghi and comparisons with Sir Alex Ferguson and Pep Guardiola.
Marotta stressed there is a difference between the two, but hailed Inzaghi’s approach and vision for the game.
He said: “Ferguson or Guardiola, there is a 10-12 year difference of experience on the pitch between him and the most popular coaches. His path is extraordinary to date, he arrived on tiptoe and endured a period of criticism by overcoming it and today he is a coach who applies a very beautiful footballing method and therefore we enjoy it and we would like him to manage for as long as possible.”
You very rarely hear Inzaghi get linked with the top jobs in football. That could change if they win Serie A or go on another decent run in Europe.
