Aston Villa’s top target Mario Hermoso has keen admirers from Italy amid the expiration of his Atletico Madrid contract in the summer.

At 28 years old, the impending free agent centre-back is poised to depart from Atletico Madrid, signaling the end of his tenure with the Spanish powerhouse. While his agent maintains some uncertainty regarding his departure, it’s widely anticipated that he won’t renew his contract with Atletico.

The Real Madrid academy product appears to be set to play outside of Spain for the first time in his career with numerous teams from Europe looking at the defender.

Inter Milan want to sign Aston Villa target Mario Hermoso

Aston Villa have emerged as a frontrunner in securing his services, with reports suggesting they lead the pursuit for his signature. However, the allure of Serie A beckons, as Inter Milan have entered the fray, prepared to entice the defender with a lucrative offer, underscoring the intense competition for his talents on the free agents transfer market.

AS reports that Inter Milan has initiated contact with the representatives of the player to explore the possibility of a transfer. The Serie A powerhouse have gone a step further, formulating an enticing offer consisting of a lucrative four-year contract valued at €5 million per year, supplemented with additional bonuses, and a substantial signing-on fee.

Since joining Atletico Madrid from Espanyol in 2019, Hermoso has become a stalwart in the team, accumulating over 165 appearances. His contributions were instrumental in Atletico’s triumph in the La Liga during the 2020/21 season, showcasing his defensive prowess and leadership on the field.

With Unai Emery’s successful acquisition of left-footed Spanish defender Pau Torres last summer proving to be a strategic coup, speculation arises whether he could replicate this success by bringing Hermoso to the club in the upcoming transfer window. If Villa are to secure his signature then they’ll need to sternly fend off Inter Milan.
