Manchester United’s Brazilian winger Antony remains the subject of a Greater Manchester Police (GMP) investigation following accusations made by his former partner Gabriela Cavallin.
While taking part in a startling interview with Brazilian outlet UOL in September 2023, Cavallin claimed she was attacked on three separate occasions between June 2022 and May 2023.
The player immediately denied all allegations – including similar statements by Ingrid Lana and Rayssa de Freitas – both of which circulated in the Brazilian media. Additionally, while Antony has not been arrested, he has voluntarily opted to comply with any questioning that may occur from officials throughout.
As reported by The Athletic this morning, GMP has confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing. Similarly – investigations are being conducted by Brazilian authorities, with no conclusion reached by any party as of yet.
Despite a memorable start to life at his new club, the winger has struggled to gain consistency on the field since his move to Manchester in August 2022. A lightning start saw him net in his first three league appearances, setting the tone for a memorable relationship between the passionate South American and his adoring crowd.
Goals have dried up, and any hint of high-level performance has fallen by the wayside. Having not completed 90 minutes of Premier League football since a fixture against Chelsea in December, it is a little over two months since the Brazilian started a league game and closing in on a year since he last scored in England’s top tier.
Erik ten Hag is aware of the burden on the shoulders of the second-most expensive player in the club’s history and is adamant that despite an underwhelming season, there is more to come from the €95 million man.
What do you think the future holds for the one-time tricky winger? Should he be concerned about his place at the club, or is the more to come?
