According to Sky Germany, the Serbian is wanted by the Tractor Boys and some top Italian sides.

Since leaving England, Matic has had stints at Roma, Rennes and now plays for Lyon.

Matic signed with the Ligue 1 club in 2024 on a contract that runs until 2026.

Manager Kieran McKenna is reportedly keen on the idea of bringing Matic back to the Premier League to strengthen Ipswich's squad as they battle to avoid relegation.

At 36, Matic’s wealth of experience in English football, highlighted by his Premier League-winning campaigns with Chelsea, could offer much-needed leadership and expertise to the Tractor Boys.

Jose Mourinho, who managed Matic at both Chelsea and Manchester United, has previously lauded him as the 'perfect player' and credited his reliability, strength on the ball and diligence.

Ipswich aren't the only team showing interest in the former star however.

Como, Napoli, and Fiorentina have also each been linked to the midfielder, although reports suggest that Matic is happy at Lyon and has no plans to leave the club.

After returning to the Premier League following a 22-year absence, Ipswich find themselves languishing in 18th place with 16 points.

They have performed the best of the promoted sides however, winning three games so far.

McKenna's side recently enjoyed a notable victory over Chelsea, but will need to improve in the second half of the season to boost their chances of survival.

Ipswich have been active in the January transfer window, agreeing a deal with Aston Villa for England international Jadon Philogene.

They have also bid for Liverpool's Ben Doak and secured a deal for Ben Godfrey on loan from Atalanta.
