Rajat Rahul Haksar, CEO of August Entertainment is an anti-piracy agency appointed by Maddock Films. He had filed a complaint related to the piracy of the Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava. An FIR has been filed in this connection, with the Mumbai Police reporting that the complainant has flagged 1,818 internet links where the period drama was distributed illegally.
Vicky Kaushal Starrer Chhaava Is A Target Of Piracy
A case has been registered with the South Region Cyber Police under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Copyright Act, Cinematograph Act, and Information Technology Act. It follows a complaint from the CEO of the anti-piracy agency. As reported by Bollywood Hungama, an official stated, “Our investigation has uncovered that unknown individuals have generated 1,818 internet links to distribute the film, which constitutes a breach of copyright laws and adversely affects its theatrical release. The cyber police are currently tracing the IP addresses associated with these links.”
A case has been registered at South Cyber Police Station under CR No 23/2025 for offences under Sections 316(2) and 308(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). With sections mentioned 51, 63, and 65A of the Copyright Act, Section 6AA of the Cinematograph Act, 1952 (Amendment 2023), and Sections 43 and 66 of the Information Technology Act.
Chhaava has performed exceptionally well at the box office, having already surpassed the Rs 500 crore mark. Directed by Laxman Utekar and based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the film also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna. With this achievement, Chhaava has become Vicky Kaushal’s highest-earning film. It surpasses the success of Uri: The Surgical Strike, Raazi, Sam Bahadur, and Zara Hatke Zara Bachke.
PM Narendra Modi Acknowledges Chhaava
Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged the film’s success during the 98th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in New Delhi. He praised Chhaava and highlighted Maharashtra’s contribution to cinema. He mentioned, “Aur in dino toh, Chhaava ki dhoom machi hui hai (These days, it’s all Chhaava’s glory).” PM Modi also credited Marathi author Shivaji Sawant’s novel Chhava for bringing the legacy of Sambhaji Maharaj to the forefront.
In response to this recognition, Vicky Kaushal shared PM Modi’s remarks on Instagram, stating, “Honoured beyond words! Grateful to Hon. PM Narendra Modi Ji. #Chhaava.” His co-star Rashmika Mandanna expressed her appreciation as well, writing, “Thank you @narendramodi sir. It’s truly an honour.”
