Geoff Shreeves suggests that if Manchester City are found to have violated Financial Fair Play regulations, they should face relegation from the Premier League.

The current holders of both the European and English titles, Manchester City, face allegations of 115 violations of financial regulations by the Premier League. The case is anticipated to proceed later this year.

With numerous voices advocating for City’s expulsion from the top-flight in the event of guilt, former Sky Sports personality Shreeves believes such a severe penalty should indeed be considered.

He told Lucky Block: “I don’t see that the Premier League would have any other option [than to relegate City if they are found guilty]. They’ve set a precedent with Everton with those points deductions. They primarily pushed for a 12-point deduction. So it has to be a possibility, it has to be.”

The proceedings for City’s case are scheduled for later this year, yet it’s unlikely that the previous season’s winners of both the Premier League and the Champions League will receive a verdict until the following year. Meanwhile, they will persist in their endeavor to defend the trio of trophies they claimed last season, beginning with a league encounter against Chelsea on Saturday.

Will the Premier League really relegate Man City?

Many people are doubtful that the Premier League will even do anything over the Manchester City saga if they are found guilty of their charges.

Personally, I can see a situation where the club are forced into a transfer embargo and as a result they will be forced into signing free agents only. If this was to take place then the youth academy products could see even more game time.
