Ronald Araujo returned to the quarter -final return from the Champions League last season between Barça and PSG. A match he haunted him.

Ronald Araujo has not forgotten. In a long interview with Spanish daily

Sportthe Uruguayan defender returned to the sad memory of April 16, 2024. That day, Barça received PSG, on the sidelines of the return match of the quarter-finals of the Champions League. 3-2 winners in the first leg, at the Parc des Princes, the Catalans had opened the scoring at the Olympic stadium Lluís Companys.

Unfortunately, the expulsion of Ronald Araujo in the first period, following a gross fault on Bradley Barcola, changed the course of the meeting for the Blaugrana. Paris finally qualified for the semi-finals by winning 4 goals to 1 (cumulative score 4-6). This red card was difficult to digest for Araujo. Even if he explains that that “Is part of the past”. However, he confesses it: “At first, it haunted me, especially during the rest of the season”.

“I was not at the level”

This card even impacted it for the rest of the season, Araujo admits it. “The big players are mentally strong and know how to overcome these situations. I consider myself one of them. I will not deny that after that in liga, I was not at the level that I usually have, but I must continue. I still have a lot to build in my career, to give this club ”he said.

Back from a long injury to the Ischio, the Uruguayan extended his contract with Barça until 2031. He is today replacing a situation he assumes. “You shouldn't be stupid, you have to go there little by little and when the manager decides that it's time to go back … I'm happy, I don't mind because I understand where I come from. When I am 100%, the manager already knows what I can give ”he explains.
