To everyone’s surprise, Antoine Griezmann announced his international retirement this Monday morning.

Thunderbolt! Against all expectations, Antoine Griezmann announced this Monday morning via a message posted on his social networks the end of his story with the France team. It is with a heart full of memories that I close this chapter of my life. Thank you for this magnificent tricolor adventure and see you soon”, wrote the Mâconnais, accompanying these few words with a video.

“Today, it is with deep emotion that I announce my retirement as a player for the France team. After ten incredible years, marked by challenges, successes and unforgettable moments, it is time for me to turn a page and make way for the new generation. Wearing this jersey was an honor and a privilege. Since March 2014 and until last September, I had the chance to experience incredible moments alongside exceptional teammates. We shared victories that will stay with us forever, so thank you for the precious memories we created together.”added the Atlético Madrid striker in his video.

Griezmann: “I leave the France team with a deep feeling of pride and gratitude”

And to add: “ I would also like to thank the supporters who have always been there in moments of joy and in times of doubt. Your passion, your fervor and your loyalty have been a real source of energy for me. A huge thank you also to the staff of the French team and to all the people who worked behind the scenes, in Clairefontaine and on the road. And finally, thank you to my coach. Your trust and support throughout my international career have been essential to my development as an athlete. I leave the French team with a deep feeling of pride and gratitude. I had the honor of representing our country and the chance to experience extraordinary moments, such as becoming world champion. I will continue to follow the Blues with passion and support this team which has given me so much. I believe the future is bright and I can’t wait to see the next generation shine. Many thanks to all of you for your love and support. See you soon. »

Arriving in the French team in 2014, Antoine Griezmann will have worn the rooster jersey for ten years. Ten years during which he became the third most capped player in the history of the Blues (137 caps, 44 goals), but also the best passer. Above all, he won the World Cup in 2018, but also the Nations League in 2021. It is therefore in legend that the 33-year-old striker bids farewell to the selection.
