At 10 against 11, Ivory Coast beat Mali in the quarter-finals of its African Cup of Nations on Saturday, thanks to a goal in added time during extra time!
The incredible journey of Côte d’Ivoire to “its” African Cup of Nations continues until the last four! The Elephants, now led by Emerse Faé, managed to eliminate Mali in the quarter-finals of the competition, at the end of extra time, in order to join DR Congo in the semi-finals next Wednesday.
The meeting was completely crazy and the Malian Eagles may have a lot of regrets. They first missed a penalty, through Adama Noss Traoré, who fell on Yahia Fofana (16th). But the match especially changed at the end of the first period with the second warning received by Odilon Kossounou which reduced the Ivorians to 10 (43rd).
Oumar Diakité’s heel
In the second half, the Malians finally found the fault, with a magnificent goal from Nene Dorgeles (71st), but Ivory Coast snatched extra time thanks to Simon Adingra (90th). Already decisive on the first goal of his selection, the heroic Seko Fofana saw his shot deflected by Oumar Diakité with his heel on the last action of the extension (120th + 2).
Serge Aurier, Nicolas Pépé, Sébastien Haller and their teammates will have a lot to face against the Congolese Leopards with great confidence, carried by the defensive rock Chancel Mbemba and a Yoane Wissa on fire.
