Jake Atlas struggled in WWE after hearing some feedback from Triple H.

Atlas has been openly gay throughout his career and it has been an important part of his identity. He signed with WWE in 2019 and was sent to NXT, where he spent two years before being released.

He also had a short run with AEW starting at the end of 2021. However, a domestic violence arrest saw him lose his job with Tony Khan’s promotion.

Jake Atlas recently spoke to Developmentally Speaking about first appearing in the WWE. He revealed that he spoke to Triple H, who told him that his sexuality didn’t matter in the WWE (in a positive way). However, that was not what Jake Atlas wanted to hear and it inadvertently affected his confidence going into his WWE debut.

“I remember having a conversation as I’m gonna have my first match in the tournament, so this is after I filmed the vignettes and everything, and Triple H talking to me and saying, basically saying like, ‘Your sexuality doesn’t matter here.'” Jake Atlas said.

“He didn’t say it in a negative way, but I think for someone who has struggled with identity and sexuality their whole lives, I think no matter how you say it, no matter what you say, it’s going to affect me. I think that really shot me down, and I didn’t know…well, if that has been my message and my strength up to this point, I don’t know who to be or who you want me to be if it’s not this. So, I think that was just a huge struggle from that point on,” added Jake Atlas.
