James Earl Jones Dies: Revered ‘Field Of Dreams’ Star & Darth Vader Voice Was 93

James Earl Jones, the revered actor who voiced Star Wars villain Darth Vader, starred in Field of Dreams and many other films and is an EGOT winner, died this morning at his home in Dutchess County, NY. He was 93.

His reps at Independent Artist Group confirmed the news to Deadline.

Widely regarded as the one of the world great stage and screen actors Jones is one of the few entertainers to have won the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony). Jones has received two Primetime Emmy Awards, a Grammy Award and three Tony Awards and was presented with the Honorary Academy Award.

Beginning with the Stanley Kubrick classic Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964), Jones went on to appear in some of the most successful films of all time. He probably is best known for his voice role as Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy. while he returned too as the voice of Darth Vader in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005) and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016).  He also acted in such standout films such as Dr. Strangelove (1964), Conan the Barbarian (1982), Coming to America (1988), The Hunt for Red October (1990), The Sandlot (1990), Patriot Games (1992), and Sneakers (1992).

He has also appeared on The Simpsons three times and played Mufasa both in The Lion King animated pic and hybrid/live-action pics.

He was nominated for an Oscar for Outstanding Lead Actor for his role in The Great White Hope and was given an honorary Oscar at the 2012 ceremony. He is a two-time Emmy winner and 8-time Emmy nominee. He won both of his Emmy Awards remarkably in 1991 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama series for his role in Gabirel’s Fire and for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Special for his role in Heat Wave.
