James Garner feels he made the right decision by leaving Manchester United to join Everton

Former Man United midfielder James Garner feels he has demonstrated his abilities to people who had little trust in him while he was at Old Trafford.

The midfielder left the Red Devils and joined Everton in 2022 for £15 million. After joining the club at the age of 7, Garner rose through the ranks of the United academy.

The former United midfielder has become a key part of the Everton team and Sean Dyche’s plans at Goodison Park.

He has admitted that it was a tough call for him to leave United but he feels he made the right decision for his career.

He is told The Telegraph:

“When they start signing three or four midfielders, you kind of understand your place. It was a decision that I wanted to make.

“It’s always a tough decision [to leave] when you’re coming from a club that is deemed one of the best in the world.

“It was a big decision but one I knew was right.

“I feel like I’ve proven it to those who didn’t believe me over that side, but more importantly I’ve proven to myself that I can play in a Premier League side week in, week out.

“I definitely had conversations with him [Ten Hag] but I’d just come off the back of a good season, probably the best season I possibly could have had, so I didn’t want to sit on the bench week in, week out.”

The 22-year-old, who plays a variety of roles for Everton, has demonstrated excellent versatility. He has become a vital component of Dyche’s system this season because of his versatility and work ethic.

Erik ten Hag was expected to keep Garner at the club after his impressive loan spell at Nottingham Forest. However, United signed Casemiro and Christian Eriksen and ten Hag felt it was right to move on Garner.
