Manchester United got one over their bitter rivals Liverpool as the Red Devils knocked them out of the FA Cup at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Liverpool, still harbouring hopes of securing the quadruple for their departing manager Jurgen Klopp, saw their aspirations fade when Marcus Rashford equalised in the 112th minute. With the match poised for a penalty shootout, substitute Amad Diallo emerged as the unexpected hero for Erik ten Hag’s team.

Manchester United have learned their fate and are set to face Championship side Coventry City at Wembley next month. On the other hand, Manchester City will take on Chelsea, and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has predicted that Pep Guardiola’s team will clinch the silverware comfortably by defeating the Red Devils in the final.

Carragher sends salty response to former Manchester United defender

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand tweeted ‘Wembley!’, and ex-Liverpool player Carragher responded: “Relax [two laughing emojis]. Man City will beat you comfortably in the final & ETH will still be in charge next season. It’s not the win you think it is!”

Erik ten Hag on the test Coventry City will pose in the FA Cup semi-final

As Erik ten Hag stated after his team dumped Liverpool out of the cup, that result for Manchester United could be the catalyst that the club needed in order to gain momentum in the final stages of the campaign.

Nevertheless, the Dutchman remained focus during his post-match reaction on United’s semi-final tie against Championship outfit Coventry City.

“As you have seen yesterday about Coventry, how they did that for a very good team. Very good spirit, very good mentality. It will be a difficult game but we want to go into the final, so we have to prepare our best and play at our best.”

The semi-final tie will be played over the weekend of April 20–21.
